Tucson Heritage Experience Festival

The Tucson Heritage Experience Festival will be held October 12, 13 and 14 at El Presidio Park, in downtown Tucson (between the Old County Courthouse and City Hall). Come explore the many cultures of Southern Arizona through food, music, dance and art. Call 670-7060 for information.

For 28 years the multi-cultural diversity of Southern Arizona has been celebrated at the Tucson Heritage Experience Festival. This event began as "Tucson Meet Yourself" and was founded by University of Arizona folklorist Dr. Jim Griffith. After Jim retired the name was changed, but not the festival's purpose: To celebrate the contributions of the many ethnic communities that have shaped the development of Tucson and Southern Arizona. The Tucson Heritage Experience (T.H.E. Festival) continues this mission with a three-day celebration of food, music, dance and folk arts. Through story telling, recipes, songs, and crafts our culture has grown, and the contributions of these various elements strengthen the fabric of society and our individual lives.

T.H.E Festival offers unique experiences for everyone, and there is no admission charge. If you work downtown, you may want to visit the festival for lunch on Friday. Entertainment begins at 6:00pm on Friday evening and continues at noon on both Saturday and Sunday. Dozens of groups will present music and dance performances that are not often viewed in any other public forum. Folk arts demonstrations are held at the Old County Courthouse on Saturday and Sunday, and children's activities will be held at the Tucson Public Library Plaza on those days as well. Over thirty food booths will present a delicious array of foods from around the world. It is an opportunity to sample, explore and enjoy that should not be missed.
