Oklahoma City is a relatively large city in the heartland of America. Everyone has heard of it. But if you have never been there, you should know that there really is a lot to do. It is a great place to have a family vacation, but to get everything in, you really need to stay for a while. I have family that live close to Oklahoma City, so I spend a lot of time there and I have done about everything there is to do in the city.
Oklahoma City has quite a few museums and other educational places that you can visit. One of the most popular is the Cowboy Hall of Fame. Here you can see statues portraying many famous cowboys as well as their Indian counterparts. Learn the history of the Trail of Tears. Or look at how the west was won. You can do it all at the Cowboy Hall of Fame.
Another interesting educational stop is the Kirkpatrick Center. Here you can see the a replica of the first airplane or the first lunar lander. Watch the lunar landings. See Native American art. See a piece of the famous Berlin Wall. Or go to my favorite section. It is called the Omniplex. Here you can play games and learn. It is a hands on museum. If that doesn't interest you, go upstairs. You can see dresses that were worn by the first ladies. Or look at the toy exhibit. There is a million things to do at the Kirkpatrick Center. It is definitely a must if you have young children.
Never underestimate the power of a zoo. Oklahoma City has a great one. The animals live in nice habitats and some live in a habitat that looks just like their original home. Go to the ape exhibit and see the characteristics that make humans and apes so similar. Or go to the big cats and stand in awe of their majestic bearing. On certain days, you can even take a ride on a camel or an elephant. You do want to make sure that you go early in the morning, because it can get very hot!
For someone who is not into educational stuff, there is still plenty to do. There are dozens of malls sprinkled around the city. The shopping choices never end. There are also many movie theatres, including a few brand new stadium seating theatres. If you are not into movies, there are also a few play theatres in town as well. But if you have older kids, this may not interest them much.
The last thing I will tell you about is Frontier City. It lays on the outskirts of Oklahoma City. This is the resident theme park. Sporting gun shows and magic shows, it is fun for all ages. The main focus is the rides. Frontier City boasts very few shops or shows. It includes a kid area for younger children and many thrill rides for older audiences. It is a great way to spend a day.
There is much more to do in Oklahoma City. If I told any more, this review would never end. The best way to see all that there is to do is to go for yourself. No matter what it is that you like to do, Oklahoma City's got it.
